OwnerRez quotes now need a guest attached, and guestless ones have been deleted

OwnerRez has changed how its API handles quotes, and some integrations will break until they are updated. As of 21 October 2026, every newly created quote must have a guest assigned, unless the call is strictly a price check.

OwnerRez emailed the accounts and API applications that had recently created quotes without a guest. If you run a booking website, a direct booking widget or any tool that prices stays through the API, this is worth passing to whoever built it.

Why it changed

The API used to allow a quote to be created with no guest on it. Those quotes could not then be completed through Confirm and Pay, so guests trying to book hit errors. OwnerRez describes the change as correcting that behaviour, so unbookable quotes stop being created in the first place.

What integrators have to do

For a quote that is meant to turn into a booking, create the guest first with POST /v2/guests. OwnerRez says no guest details are required at that point. Then pass the returned guest_id when you create the quote with POST /v2/quotes.

For a price check or rate lookup, include test: true on the call to POST /v2/quotes. That returns pricing without storing a quote and without needing a guest. OwnerRez is explicit that you should not create a new guest for every price check, because it fills your guest list with records nobody wants.

If your integration already attaches guests to real quotes and uses test: true for lookups, there is nothing to do.

What happens if nobody updates it

Calls to POST /v2/quotes without a guest_id or test: true return a 400 error. If your site depends on those calls to build a quote, guests cannot get through to Confirm and Pay. Integrations that read pricing back out of stored quotes will need to move to test: true.

The part that has already happened

As part of the fix, OwnerRez removed previously stored quotes that had no guest assigned, apart from those tied to held dates or to emails that had been sent. Those quotes no longer show in your quote list, in search results or in API responses. Quotes with a guest on them are untouched.

That is retroactive data deletion, and it is the detail most likely to cause confusion later. If you report on quote volume, conversion from quote to booking, or anything else counted off the quote table, your historical numbers have changed shape. Anyone comparing this month's quote count to last year's should know some old records are simply gone.

This is also the second OwnerRez API change inside a week, after the new per-token rate limits that start on 3 November and the stricter validation due on 5 January. Integrators with questions are pointed at [email protected].
