Guesty opens an MCP server, and it is not the first PMS to do it

Guesty has opened an MCP server, so you can connect Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini straight to your own Guesty account and ask it questions in plain language rather than exporting a report first.

The capability is described on Guesty's own AI page under the heading "Guesty MCP: Build without limits", with Guesty positioned as the source of truth behind whatever you connect. The detail reached the trade press through a sponsored feature in Short Term Rentalz on 12 October, which is worth keeping in mind when reading the claims in it.

What it does

Once connected, an assistant can reach reservations, revenue, reviews and owner financials. The examples given are the kind of thing a manager currently builds a spreadsheet for: a check-in briefing for tomorrow's arrivals with access codes and flagged notes, a ranked list of properties with three or more empty nights next month, and bookings with payments still uncollected in the next two weeks.

It is authenticated with your own Guesty credentials and scoped to your session. Developers can also point Cursor or VS Code at it and build scripts, Slack bots or dashboards against live data instead of a nightly export.

The first-mover claim does not hold

The sponsored piece calls Guesty "the first major PMS to offer its own MCP". That is not right.

OwnerRez opened its MCP server to all users on 6 October, with read access to bookings, properties, guests, messages, rates and calendars. Hospitable has had one running longer than that, and has gone further than read-only: its server can lock and unlock smart locks on a plain English request, and as of early October it exposes owner statements, including marking them paid. Guesty is third at best among the larger vacation rental systems.

The gap that matters more than the ordering is documentation. Guesty's page does not say which data objects are exposed, whether access is read-only or includes writes, how authorisation is scoped, or whether MCP is tied to a particular plan. OwnerRez published its server URL and said plainly that access is read-only. Hospitable documents its actions. Until Guesty does the same, anyone evaluating this has to take it on trust.

What it means for operators

If you run a portfolio on Guesty and already pay for an AI assistant, this removes the export step from a class of question you probably ask weekly. That is a real saving, and for most Guesty customers it is the first time they can query their own data without going through a report builder.

Two cautions. An assistant with live access to owner financials is a new surface for mistakes and for data leaving your control, so it is worth deciding who on your team is allowed to connect one before somebody does it unilaterally. And because Guesty has not stated whether writes are possible, do not assume an assistant cannot change anything until Guesty says so.

Two questions worth putting to your account manager: what can the server read, and what can it write.
