Hours per occupied room (HPOR)

Total paid labour hours at a hotel divided by the number of rooms sold. The standard productivity measure for hotel labour, and the one most labour management systems report against.

A lower HPOR means the property is using fewer paid hours to service each occupied room. Because it uses rooms sold rather than rooms available as the denominator, it adjusts for occupancy automatically, which makes it comparable across seasons and between properties of different sizes.

Typical benchmarks differ sharply by segment. Full service hotels carry restaurants, meeting space and more departments, so their HPOR is far higher than a select service property running housekeeping and a front desk.
