Mews pulls the trial balance out of daily exports and into a live report

Two Mews releases in mid September target the same job: month-end close. If your finance team currently stitches daily export files together to reconcile a month, both are aimed at you.
The trial balance becomes a report
Announced on 16 September and flagged as coming in late September, the trial balance moves from daily-only exports to a live, interactive report inside Mews Operations.
The practical change is date range selection. Finance teams pick any period, by week, by month or arbitrary, view summarised ledger data in Mews rather than in a spreadsheet, and export to Excel, CSV or PDF. Exports land in the Export queue rather than being generated ad hoc, so a long-running report cannot be lost by closing a tab.
Anyone who has reconciled a month in a hotel knows why this is on the list. Merging thirty daily files to answer one question about the ledger is work that produces nothing except the answer, and it goes wrong in quiet ways when a file is missed.
Note the tense. Mews labelled this "coming soon" on 16 September, with late September as the window. At the time of writing it is an announcement, not a feature in your account. Do not retire your existing process until you have run a real month-end on it.
Scheduled ledger exports, already live
The day before, on 15 September, Mews shipped recurring scheduled exports for the deposit and guest ledgers. Previously each export was manual, every time.
You can now set both ledgers to run on whatever frequency your property needs, with the output delivered automatically so the data is waiting at the start of the day. Mews also points to uploading the results into external systems, which is the real use case for most groups: the ledger data has to reach an accounting package or a data warehouse, and a human pressing export on a Tuesday is the weakest link in that chain.
What is not stated
Neither release says which Mews plans include these, whether there is any limit on report size or date range, or how the trial balance behaves for a multi-property group as opposed to a single hotel. For a company with a large enterprise base, group-level reporting is the obvious question and the announcement does not touch it.
There is also no mention of whether the interactive report matches the existing daily exports figure for figure. When a vendor rebuilds a financial report on a new path, the first thing your controller should do is run both for the same period and compare. If they differ, you want to know that in October, not during an audit.
The pattern worth noticing
Mews has now shipped or announced four finance and reporting changes in a month, counting the ledger activity report earlier in September. That is a deliberate push into the back office rather than the front desk.
It is also the least glamorous part of a PMS and the part that decides whether your finance team tolerates the system. Worth a conversation with your Mews contact about what else is queued, particularly if you have been maintaining reconciliation workarounds that might now be unnecessary.
