Mews Business Intelligence will report on beds, not just rooms, from November

Hostels have been doing awkward mental arithmetic on their own occupancy reports for years. From the second week of November, Mews says that stops.

Mews has announced that hostel properties, and mixed hostel and hotel properties, will be able to report on beds as well as rooms in Mews Business Intelligence. A self-service setting lets you choose between the bed view and the room view for your dashboards.

Why this matters

If you sell beds but your system counts rooms, your numbers lie to you in a specific way.

Mews gives the example: a six-bed dorm with five beds sold currently reads as one occupied room. Occupancy looks like 100 per cent for that unit when you have in fact sold five sixths of it, and the sixth bed is still revenue you did not get. Average rate is distorted in the other direction, because the full room rate is being divided by one unit rather than five sold beds.

With the bed view on, five beds sold reads as five beds sold. Occupancy and rate figures line up with how the property actually sells.

For a hostel manager, that is the difference between a report you can hand to an owner and a report you have to explain. It also makes period comparisons honest, because a quiet week with lots of partly filled dorms no longer looks like a full house.

The detail

The room view stays one click away for the moments when you do report in rooms, which matters for mixed properties that still answer to room-level budgets or brand reporting. Hotel-only workspaces are unchanged, so there is nothing to do if you do not sell beds.

Mews is calling this a coming soon item rather than a shipped one. The date it gives is the second week of November 2026.

What it does not say

A few things worth checking before you plan reporting around it.

The announcement covers Mews Business Intelligence dashboards. It does not say whether the bed view reaches other reports in Mews Operations, exports, or anything you pull through the API. If your owner reporting or your board pack is built on scheduled exports rather than on BI dashboards, that is the question to ask.

It also does not state which plan Business Intelligence sits on, or whether the setting is available to every property that has it. And since this is a reporting change rather than an inventory or pricing change, nothing about how you sell or price a dorm bed is affected.

For operators

If you run hostels on Mews, this is a small change with a disproportionate effect: you stop maintaining a spreadsheet to translate your own occupancy figures. Make sure whoever builds your reporting knows the setting exists, because a property that silently stays on the room view while another switches to the bed view will produce two sets of occupancy numbers that cannot be compared.

More broadly, it is a reminder that hostels and mixed-use properties are still being retrofitted into systems designed around a room as the unit of sale. Bed-level reporting arriving in 2026 as a configurable view, rather than being the default for a hostel workspace, tells you where the category still sits.
