Hostfully has moved a set of its web workflows onto mobile and rebuilt the desktop app around a wider layout. The update went out on 1 October and covers both the iOS and Android apps and the desktop client.

On mobile, two things changed that actually affect how a day runs. You can now edit property settings from the phone, including main settings, amenities, descriptions, rooms and beds. And you can open the Booking Pipeline to review leads and booking details and act on them.

Property editing on mobile is the more interesting half. Amenities, descriptions and bed configuration are the fields that get corrected after someone physically walks a unit, which is exactly when nobody is sitting at a laptop. Until now that meant writing yourself a note and fixing it later, which is how listings end up describing a sofa bed that was thrown out in March.

The Booking Pipeline on mobile matters for a different reason. A lead that sits unanswered for a few hours is often a lead that books somewhere else, and inquiry response time feeds into how Airbnb and Booking.com rank a listing. Being able to see and act on the pipeline away from a desk is a revenue question, not a convenience one.

The desktop rebuild

The desktop app got a layout change rather than new capability. Hostfully lists new sidebar navigation, three-column layouts that keep a list, the detail and related information visible at the same time, easier-to-scan leads and messages with quick actions available straight from the list, and a calendar with pricing visible, subunit selection and quicker access to common actions. The Booking Pipeline and the new property editing are on desktop too.

Three-column layouts are the detail worth noticing. The usual complaint about property management software is not that a feature is missing but that doing one job means opening four screens and losing your place. Keeping the list and the record side by side is the sort of change that does not demo well and saves real time.

What the release does not say

Hostfully has not said which plans this lands on, or which regions, so assume it is general availability until told otherwise. It also has not said whether the old desktop layout remains available. Teams that have trained staff on the current navigation should expect to re-do some of that training, because a new sidebar and a new calendar are not changes you can opt out of quietly.

There is no mention of offline behaviour either. Editing a property from the phone is most valuable standing inside the unit, and the places where mobile data is worst tend to be basements, stairwells and rural properties. Worth a test before relying on it.

The release is part of a busy few weeks at Hostfully. The company shipped its own accounting module for US and Canadian managers in mid September, added three marketplace integrations on 30 September, and added two more on 7 October. The pattern is a platform filling in the gaps around its core rather than launching anything new at the centre of it.
