Hostaway lets you edit a reservation from the Inbox, and clear a message backlog in bulk
Hostaway has added two things to its new Inbox, both aimed at the gap between reading a guest message and doing something about it. They went live on 20 October.
Editing without leaving the conversation
Until now, changing anything on a reservation meant leaving the Inbox and opening the Reservation page. In the Summary tab of the Inbox side panel you can now edit six fields directly: guest email, phone number, number of guests, check in and check out dates, and check in and check out times.
One limit matters. Reservation date changes work on every channel except Airbnb. If a guest messages through Airbnb asking to shift a night, you are still going out to the channel for that part of the job.
That exception is not Hostaway's choice, and it is the same boundary other property management systems hit on Airbnb. It is worth knowing before you promise a guest a quick change.
Bulk actions on the conversation list
The second change is for the backlog rather than the single message. Hover over a conversation in the list and a checkbox appears. Click the first conversation, shift click the last, and everything in between is selected.
From there you can mark as read or unread, escalate, snooze, or archive, across as many conversations as you ticked. Hostaway's framing is that clearing a backlog used to mean opening conversations one at a time, or going out to the old bulk update screen.
The company lists three reasons for the pair: faster fixes where the request came in, fewer tools to juggle because routine changes skip both the Reservation page and the OTA extranet, and quicker backlog clearing.
What it is actually worth
Neither of these is a new capability in the sense of something you could not do before. Both are about where you do it, which sounds like a small distinction until you count the clicks.
A guest emails to say four people are coming instead of three. The old route was Inbox, Reservation page, edit, save, back to Inbox, reply. The new one is edit in the panel and reply. Multiply that by a portfolio and a morning, and it adds up. It is also the whole argument for a unified inbox in the first place, so it is fair to say this is Hostaway closing a gap rather than opening a new one.
The bulk actions are the more quietly useful half. Snooze and escalate applied to a selection is the difference between an inbox you scroll and a queue you work. Teams running shift handovers across properties will notice that one first.
Hostaway shipped this on the same day as its QuickBooks Online expense sync, which pushes each Hostaway expense into QuickBooks as its own bill.
