Hostaway gives owners their own mobile app, including stays they book themselves

Hostaway has given property owners their own version of its mobile app. If your team spends part of every day answering the same three questions, how is my property doing, where is my statement, can I block a week in June, those answers now sit on the owner's phone.
The Mobile Owner Experience went live on 6 October. It is a separate view of the existing Hostaway app, switched on per user, and Hostaway says it is already included in the subscription rather than sold as an add-on.
What the owner sees
Four modules make up the owner view.
A financial overview shows revenue, occupancy and average nightly rate, with a year-over-year comparison. Owner statements can be viewed, downloaded and shared, but only the ones the manager has already published. A properties list shows every property assigned to that owner. And owner stays let the owner book, edit and manage their own personal stays from the app.
That last one is the real operational change. The other three replace emails and PDF attachments. Owner stays move a booking action out of the manager's hands and into the owner's, which is convenient until two owners of the same multi-unit property both decide to come in July.
Everything is off by default
Hostaway has been careful about permissions, and managers should read this part properly before telling owners the app exists.
Modules are off by default. Owners see only the listings assigned to them and only the data the manager chooses to share, which Hostaway describes as ranging "from full financials to nothing at all". Turning it on is a per-user job: open Menu then Users on mobile, or Settings then Users on the web dashboard, select the owner, open Access Permissions, and enable the owner-focused mobile app experience. Then enable the specific modules, and confirm on the web dashboard that the right listings are assigned.
For a manager with forty owners, that is forty rounds of permission setting, and the listing assignment check is the step most likely to be skipped. An owner assigned to the wrong listing sees someone else's revenue.
Where this fits
Owner portals are not new in this category. Hostfully, OwnerRez and Hostify all have one, and owner reporting is one of the standard reasons a growing manager outgrows spreadsheets. What Hostaway has done is make the owner experience mobile-first rather than a cut-down web login, and attach booking rights to it.
That matters commercially more than it looks. Owner retention in vacation rental management turns heavily on financial performance and on how well the manager communicates, and owner reporting and data access sits just behind those in most manager surveys. A self-serve app that an owner actually opens is a cheaper way to deliver the second of those than another monthly phone call.
The flip side is that transparency cuts both ways. An owner with a live occupancy figure and a year-over-year comparison in their pocket is an owner who will ask why September was down, on the day it is down, rather than at the annual review. Managers who have been smoothing that conversation with an annual summary should decide what they want visible before switching the financial module on.
Hostaway has published step-by-step videos for both sides, one for property managers and one for property owners. Worth sending the owner-facing one with the invitation rather than fielding setup questions.
